Points of View Artists celebrates its 10th anniversary this season. We began as an ad hoc group of students who met in Kathleen Boldt’s popular Merrymeeting Adult Education courses, Drawing: Learning to See and Drawing with Color. Kathleen Boldt provided the inspiration and artistic foundation that launched each of us on an exploration of the “artist within”. We have continued our growth as artists by meeting regularly to foster an environment of mutual support, artistic development, and lifelong learning.
Since those early meetings in spring 2004, we have opened the art gallery at 18 Pleasant Street, regularly held exhibits during Brunswick’s Second Friday Artwalk, and shown our work as a group and as individuals in many shows throughout the greater Portland and Augusta regions. Members have been juried in to shows from Damariscotta to Augusta to Kennebunk, and several artists have won awards.
We are committed to supporting the broader community and are especially proud of our role in founding the 10 X 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale. This event, co-sponsored with Arts Are Elementary (AAE), has been held every September since 2008. With art from 175 Maine artists and enthusiastic attendance by the community, the one-night affair regularly raises $10,000 to support AAE’s artist-in-residence program in every elementary classroom in Brunswick.
We open our 2014 season with Open Season on the first floor Main Gallery and Small Works in the Garret Gallery on the third floor. All are welcome to come to our opening reception and help us celebrate our 10th year!
